Pull the sealing ring out from behind the steel ring rack in the lid, wash it, then press it back in firmly all the way round. Replace it every 12 to 18 months, or sooner if it's stretched, misshapen or damaged. Only use a genuine Instant Pot sealing ring.
Remove the sealing ring
- Hold the edge of the silicone ring.
- Pull it out from behind the round stainless-steel ring rack in the lid.
- Check the steel rack is secure, centred and the same height all the way round. If it's bent or warped, don't try to fix it. Chat with us.
Clean it
- The sealing ring can go in the dishwasher on the top rack.
- Let it dry fully before you put it back.
- Store it somewhere with good airflow to reduce smells.
To get rid of a smell, put 1 cup (250 mL) of water and 1 cup (250 mL) of white vinegar in the inner pot. Run Pressure Cook for 5 to 10 minutes, then release the pressure quickly.
Put it back
- Place the sealing ring over the ring rack and press it into place.
- Press down firmly all the way round so it doesn't pucker.
- Turn the lid over. If it's in properly, the ring won't fall out.
Signs your sealing ring needs attention
- The lid is hard to close: the ring may not be in properly. Reposition it so it's snug behind the rack.
- Steam leaks from the side of the lid: the ring may be missing, dirty, damaged or not in properly. Clean it or put it back in properly, or replace it if it's damaged.
- It's stretched, cracked or misshapen: replace it.
