Most error codes on an Instant Pot mean the pot is too hot at the bottom, there isn't enough liquid, or the lid or switch is in the wrong position, and you can fix these yourself. C1, C2, C6, C6H, C6L, and C7 or NoPr that won't clear, point to a faulty part. Stop using it and chat with us.
When an error code shows, the Instant Pot beeps continuously.
Food Burn (or Burn)
The bottom of the inner pot got too hot, so the Instant Pot lowers the heat to stop it overheating. It's often caused by starchy or thick food stuck to the bottom.
- Turn the Instant Pot off and release the pressure as your recipe says.
- Open the lid and check the bottom of the inner pot.
- Take the food out, add a little water or stock to the hot pot and scrape the bottom with a wooden or silicone spoon (deglaze).
- Make sure there's enough thin liquid, then start again.
Minimum thin liquid for pressure cooking:
- 3L: 1 cup (250 mL)
- 5.7L: 1½ cups (375 mL)
- 8L: 2 cups (500 mL)
Error codes you can fix
- C5: It's too hot, often because the inner pot isn't in the base. Press Cancel, let it cool, check nothing is in the base, then put the inner pot in and start again. If the inner pot was in, check for scorching and add thin liquid.
- C7 or NoPr: Not enough liquid, or the switch is on Vent. Add thin liquid and move the quick release switch to Seal.
- C8 (Pro and Pro Plus): The wrong inner pot is in. Use the inner pot made for your model.
- Lid: The lid isn't right for the programme. Open and close the lid. Don't use the lid with Sauté.
- C9 or Lid (8L Duo Crisp with the air fryer lid): The lid's power and sensor parts aren't fully connected. Check the lid is fitted properly.
- PrSE: Pressure has built up during a non-pressure programme. Move the quick release switch to Vent.
Codes that mean a faulty part
C1, C2, C6, C6H and C6L mean a faulty sensor. C7 or NoPr that keeps coming back with enough liquid and the switch on Seal can mean the heating element has failed.
